DIY Cold Plunge is recalling its sauna heater kits due to a serious fire hazard that has already caused one injury, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced this week.

The recalled product is a do-it-yourself sauna heater kit manufactured by Plunge Buddy LLC, which does business as DIY Cold Plunge of North Mankato, Minnesota. The kits allow consumers to build their own heating fixture using four heat-lamp bulbs and a metal enclosure for use in homemade saunas.

The Safety Risk

Electrical conductors within the sauna heater kits can overheat, creating a fire hazard that poses risk of serious injury or death. The CPSC reports that one injury has already occurred in connection with this product, though no deaths have been reported.

What's Included in the Recalled Kits

The DIY Sauna Heater Kit contains several components for assembly:

  • A stainless steel cage (16 lbs., measuring 12"H x 12"W x 8"D when assembled)
  • Screws and bolts for assembly
  • Four ceramic bulb sockets
  • Three wire connectors
  • Two ground pigtails
  • A three-prong power cord

The kit is designed to attach to a customer-built wooden sauna frame, with heat-lamp bulbs sold separately.

What You Should Do

If you own one of these kits, stop using it immediately. The company is offering full refunds to affected customers.

To get your refund, you need to register at www.diycoldplunge.com/pages/recall. The company will ask you to provide written and photo proof that you've destroyed or disposed of the product, or you can request a prepaid shipping label to return the kit.

How to Check If You're Affected

All DIY Sauna Heater Kits sold by DIY Cold Plunge are included in this recall. If you purchased one of these kits for building a homemade sauna, you should participate in the recall program immediately.

The recall was announced on March 26, 2026. For more information about this recall, visit the CPSC website at www.cpsc.gov or contact DIY Cold Plunge through their recall registration page.

Remember: Do not continue using these heater kits, even if yours appears to be working normally. The fire hazard poses serious risks that aren't always immediately apparent.
